Prakasam district collector P. Rajababu has directed vote-counting personnel to exercise caution and ensure 100 per cent accuracy while counting ballots in the local elections scheduled for Tuesday.
Inspecting the counting arrangements at a college in Ongole on Monday, he said counting was as crucial as polling, as the political future of candidates depended on the accuracy and transparency of the results.
He said presiding officers and assistant presiding officers had received comprehensive training, including instructions on the correct procedure for folding ballot papers. He inspected the counting tables, seating arrangements, spacing between tables and the procedure for opening ballot boxes.
The collector instructed staff to avoid unnecessary discussions at counting tables and focus on counting votes. He also stressed the need to handle ballot boxes carefully and ensure that candidates’ agents could clearly view the counting process from the designated gallery.
He assured that any issues arising during counting would be addressed promptly.
