Mohanlal has commenced shooting for Anoop Sathyan’s upcoming directorial venture, and a behind-the-scenes video from the sets has now surfaced online. The video captures the actor arriving at the location in style, dressed in a simple shirt and dhoti, before being greeted by producer Antony Perumbavoor.
The footage offers a glimpse into the working atmosphere on the sets, with Anoop Sathyan seen coordinating the shoot and giving instructions to the crew. Mohanlal is also spotted interacting with members of the team and discussing aspects of the shoot. Towards the end of the video, the actor wraps up his work for the day and bids farewell to the crew, telling them that he will see them the following day.
Tentatively titled L368, the film recently commenced production in Kochi, with a pooja ceremony held last week. The team has since moved to Thodupuzha, where the current schedule is underway. Produced by Bibin George Alexander and Antony Perumbavoor, the project marks Anoop Sathyan’s second outing as a director after his 2020 debut, Varane Aavashyamundu.
Anoop Sathyan’s childhood admiration for Mohanlal
The association between Mohanlal and Anoop Sathyan has a particularly interesting backstory. Speaking at the film’s pooja ceremony, the filmmaker revealed that he had been an ardent admirer of the actor since his childhood. His father, veteran filmmaker Sathyan Anthikad, also shared an amusing anecdote about his son’s fondness for the superstar.
Recalling the period when he was unable to collaborate with Mohanlal for several years, Sathyan Anthikad spoke about how Anoop would react whenever his father worked on a film without the actor in the lead.
“There was a time when I couldn’t do a film with Mohanlal for 10 to 12 years, precisely. During that period, Anoop would keep asking about him and would be upset whenever Mohanlal was not the hero. One day, when he was unhappy about something, he left. When I asked him where he was going, he replied that he was going to Mohanlal’s house,” Sathyan Anthikad recalled.
The anecdote offered a glimpse into the filmmaker’s longstanding admiration for Mohanlal, making their upcoming collaboration an interesting development. For Anoop, who made his directorial debut with Varane Aavashyamundu, getting to direct an actor he has admired since childhood is also a significant milestone.
Mohanlal and Sathyan Anthikad’s memorable collaborations
Mohanlal shares a long-standing creative association with Sathyan Anthikad, with the filmmaker and actor having collaborated on several memorable Malayalam films. Their partnership has resulted in popular entertainers such as Nadodikattu, Gandhinagar 2nd Street and Pattanapravesham, among others. These films remain significant titles in both their filmographies, with their collaborations often remembered for their blend of humour, relatable characters and everyday situations.
Anoop Sathyan, meanwhile, made his directorial debut with Varane Aavashyamundu, starring Suresh Gopi, Shobana, Dulquer Salmaan and Kalyani Priyadarshan. The 2020 film brought together a multi-generational ensemble and was well received by audiences, establishing Anoop as a filmmaker to watch.
With L368, he now takes on a considerably different challenge by directing Mohanlal. While details about the film’s storyline, genre and supporting cast remain under wraps, the project has already attracted attention owing to the actor-director combination.
Mohanlal, meanwhile, continues to have a busy slate of projects. He recently made a brief appearance in Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, adding another notable cameo to his filmography. With Athimanoharam also gearing up for its theatrical release next month, the actor has several projects keeping him occupied. His latest collaboration with Anoop Sathyan is another eagerly anticipated addition to his upcoming Malayalam releases.
