Suraj Venjaramoodu is set to headline a new Malayalam film directed by Jagan Shaji Kailas. The upcoming project was officially launched with a traditional pooja ceremony in Idukki on Tuesday. The yet-to-be-titled film is scripted by Vibin Balachandran, who has also written Jagan’s upcoming directorial Neekkam, starring Dileep.
Interestingly, the new film marks Jagan’s third directorial venture to commence production, even though none of his previous projects has made it to theatres yet. His maiden directorial, an investigative thriller featuring Siju Wilson in the lead, completed filming in 2023 but is yet to receive a theatrical release.
The new project brings together a sizeable ensemble, with Suraj taking on the central character of Prakashan. Vinay Forrt and Manju Pillai will be seen in prominent roles, while the supporting cast includes Devaraj, Tis Thomas, Vrinda Menon, Bhanumathi, Anagha Narayanan, Jaffer Idukki, Divya M Nair, Nandu, Tesni Khan, Noby, Krishnaprabha, Vijay Menon, Shaju Sreedhar and Prashanth Alexander, among others.
The film is being jointly backed by Suraj Venjaramoodu and Santhosh Thrivikraman under their respective banners, Vilasini Cinemas and Wow Cinemas. The technical team comprises cinematographer Ajay David Kachappilly, editor Sooraj ES and music composer Electronic Kili. While further details about the film’s storyline and genre remain under wraps, the pooja ceremony marks the beginning of its production journey.
Jagan Shaji Kailas has three directorial projects lined up
The latest project adds another title to Jagan Shaji Kailas’ growing slate of directorial ventures. His first film, an investigative thriller headlined by Siju Wilson, wrapped up production in 2023. However, the film has remained unreleased since completing its shoot.
Meanwhile, Jagan has also completed work on Neekkam, which features Dileep in the lead role. Written by Vibin Balachandran, the film is another project that audiences are yet to see on the big screen. With the Suraj Venjaramoodu film now going on floors, the filmmaker has three directorial ventures in various stages of production and release, making their eventual theatrical outings worth keeping an eye on.
For Vibin Balachandran, the new project also marks another collaboration with Jagan after Neekkam. His involvement in both films establishes a continuing creative association between the writer and director, although details about the narrative of their latest venture are yet to be disclosed.
Suraj Venjaramoodu’s recent film outings
Suraj Venjaramoodu, meanwhile, continues to explore a diverse range of roles across Malayalam and other film industries. The actor was most recently seen in Rajinikanth’s Tamil action entertainer Jailer 2, where he essayed one of the antagonists. His appearance in the film brought him into a larger ensemble featuring several prominent performers.
His most recent Malayalam theatrical release was Krishnadas Murali’s Mohiniyattam. The actor has steadily expanded his filmography with performances across genres, moving between comedy, drama, thrillers and character-driven narratives.
Suraj’s latest collaboration with Jagan Shaji Kailas sees him take on the lead role of Prakashan in a film that also brings together several familiar faces from Malayalam cinema. With filming now underway in Idukki, more details about the project, including its title and other aspects of the story, are expected to emerge as production progresses.
For now, the combination of Suraj in the lead, Jagan at the helm and a sizeable supporting cast makes this yet-to-be-titled project another addition to the actor’s upcoming Malayalam slate.
