The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday conducted searches at eight locations across Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal in connection with a fake Indian currency smuggling case.

According to an NIA statement, searches were carried out at two locations in Aurangabad and three in Gaya Ji in Bihar, two in Hazaribagh in Jharkhand and one in Malda in West Bengal.

Investigators seized digital devices, documents described as incriminating and Bangladeshi currency during the operation.

The case concerns the recovery of counterfeit Indian currency notes with a face value of ₹2,48,500 under Madanpur police station limits in Bihar’s Aurangabad district.

Local police registered a case on August 15 against four accused — Surendra Kumar, Vijay Yadav, Ranjan and Pradeep Saw, alias Pradeep Kumar Saw.

The NIA took over the investigation on October 18 following an order from the Union home ministry.

The agency said its investigation so far indicated that the accused were involved in smuggling counterfeit Indian currency.
