A 21-year-old aspiring actress died by suicide at her home in Alwal after her uncle reportedly advised her against going for a shoot.
Lokam Tulasi Madhulika was found hanging in her bedroom at her residence in Bhudevi Nagar, Alwal. After repeated calls went unanswered, family members broke open the bedroom door and alerted the 108 ambulance service. Medical personnel who arrived at the scene declared her dead.
Alwal police said the complaint was lodged by her paternal uncle, Jaina Govardhan. He said his elder brother, Srinivas, died in 2015. Since then, Madhulika, her younger brother, Sai Santosh, 23, and their mother, Ramulakshmi, 38, had been living with their grandmother in Bhudevi Nagar. Their mother has been working as a nurse at Kather Hospital for the past eight years.
Govardhan said Madhulika spent considerable time on her mobile phone, and family members often advised her to attend to household responsibilities. She was interested in acting and used to attend shoots in Krishna Nagar. On Wednesday, she told Govardhan she wanted to go for a shoot. He advised her against it and left for work.
In the afternoon, Giridhar informed Govardhan that Madhulika was not opening her bedroom door. The family later found her dead.
The complainant suspected she may have taken the step following an emotional disturbance over the disagreement.
Alwal police registered a case under Section 194 of the BNSS and are investigating.
