Cristiano Ronaldo Júnior, the eldest son of Cristiano Ronaldo, has earned his first call-up to Portugal’s Under-17 side.

Portugal will play Andorra on Nov. 11, Bulgaria Nov. 14 and Serbia Nov. 17 in European Championship qualifying matches.

The 16-year-old is continuing his progression after previously representing Portugal at the U-15 and U-16 levels, scoring five goals in 13 total appearances.

He has emerged in Al Nassr’s academy, playing at the same club where his father continues to star for the senior team.

Could Ronaldo and Ronaldo Jr. play together?

As the younger Ronaldo continues to progress for club and country, the possibility increases that father and son could one day share the field together.

Ronaldo Jr. is still far away from playing for Portugal’s senior national team, but reports from Saudi Arabia earlier this year said that the teenager was close to earning a chance to train with Al Nassr’s senior squad.

Last year, Ronaldo said he was hopeful that he could one day play alongside his son.

“I would like it, but it’s not something that keeps me up at night,” Ronaldo said in an interview with Edu Aguirre.

“It’s more in his hands than in mine. The years are passing, and eventually, I’ll have to leave football. Not only physically but psychologically. But whether he plays or not, I will be a proud father regardless.”

Ronaldo, 41, has hinted that he could be in his last season as a professional.

In an interview published this August, the Portuguese superstar told Vogue “This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy.”
