WARANGAL: A 63-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh has embarked on a cycling expedition from Bhimavaram to New Delhi to create awareness among young people about drug abuse.

Indupuri Vijayalakshmi, a native of Bhimavaram in Eluru district, took up the initiative following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat’ (Drug-Free India). She began her journey on October 22 from the statue of Alluri Sitarama Raju in Bhimavaram and reached Warangal on Wednesday.

EAGLE Team DSP Ramesh and other police officials welcomed her on her arrival in the city.

As part of the campaign, Vijayalakshmi interacted with students at Vaagdevi College in Bollikunta, explaining the harmful effects of drug consumption and its impact on young people’s future. She urged them to stay away from bad habits and focus on their goals. She also conducted an awareness programme at Warangal Polytechnic College.

Later, she met Warangal Police Commissioner N. Swetha and explained the purpose of her expedition. Vijayalakshmi said she planned to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on December 10 and brief him on the campaign. She aims to reach one lakh students and create awareness about the dangers of drug abuse during the expedition.

Commissioner N. Swetha appreciated her efforts and flagged off the next leg of the journey. East Zone DCP Ankit Kumar and other police officials attended the programme.
