DAYS OF YORN AT DIOR
Published by Flammarion, A Season at Dior revisits 30 Montaigne between 1956 and 1957, the year Christian Dior died, through the memories of Jürgen Michaelsen, a 21-year-old from Bremen whom Monsieur Dior recruited to the studio and renamed Yorn. Drawing on previously unpublished archive material, the book shows how a haute couture collection comes together, illustrated with Loomis Dean’s photo essay for LIFE magazine and images by photographers including Richard Avedon and Henri Cartier-Bresson. It then follows Michaelsen beyond Dior to 1962, when he became the first German designer to open a couture house under his own name on the Champs-Élysées.
