With LeBron James now on their books the Philadelphia 76ers have enjoyed a fantastic start to the 2026/27 NBA season.
After nine games they boast an 8-1 record, most recently securing a 112-106 win over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night.

That win leaves them comfortably top of the Eastern Conference, two wins ahead of the 6-2 Pistons who are second at the time of writing.
Amid their excellent start, Skip Bayless has now sent a message to New York Knicks fan Stephen A. Smith.
The Knicks, of course, won their first championship in 53 years earlier in 2026 when they beat the San Antonio Spurs in the finals. But they have endured a mixed start to the new campaign, currently sitting eighth in the Eastern Conference with a 4-4 record.
In turn, Bayless has now told Smith that the East now belongs to the 76ers.
Taking to X/Twitter, he wrote: “Sorry, Stephen A: Last year was last year. The East now belongs to the Sixers.”
The Knicks’ slow start to the new season is perhaps not too surprising, though, given teams generally struggle to go back-to-back in the NBA.

The last side to do so was the Golden State Warriors, who won titles in 2017 and 2018.
