After delivering two hits with Veerabhadrudu and Vishvanath and Sons, Suriya was hoping to continue his success streak with Scene. However, the much-hyped crime comedy has reportedly opened to disappointing collections in the Telugu states. “The film has managed to collect just Rs. 1.7 crore share on its opening day, which is not an encouraging figure,” says a distributor.
Directed by Aavesham fame Jithu Madhavan, Scene hit theatres yesterday and received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics. Naslen plays the antagonist, while Nazriya Nazim is the female lead.
According to trade estimates, the film collected around Rs. 3 crore gross in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on its first day. The film also suffered due to limited showcasing in the Telugu states, with the clash against Ramayana affecting its screen availability. However, even the available shows failed to record encouraging occupancy.
With a reported breakeven target of around Rs. 30 crore gross, the film needs to register a substantial jump in collections over the weekend to stay in the race. The coming days will be crucial in determining its box-office prospects in the Telugu market.
The big-budget entertainer is jointly produced by Suriya, Jithu Madhavan and Zhagaram Studios, with Sushin Shyam composing the music.
