LIZTON − After a long, chilly night of sectional football, the Tri-West Bruins came out victorious over the Western Boone Stars, 35-7, in the Sectional 29 championship in Class 3A state tournament on Friday, Nov. 6.
Tri-West senior quarterback Jack Sorgi, a Wisconsin commit, credited the run game for the team’s success. The No. 10-ranked Bruins compiled 252 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns on 31 carries.

“The run game was huge tonight, being able to run the quarterback and running backs,” said Sorgi, who had 88 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries. “The run game was a big addition to the win. That allowed us to open up and have additional short passes and RPO passes throughout the game.”

Western Boone (8-4) was a familiar opponent for Tri-West (10-2).
“We played them in the first game of the season, and we were able to win that one 42-20, but we knew this was still going to be a tough game,” Sorgi said. “We know who Western Boone is, we knew if we kept it close it was going to be a tough game. But we were able to keep our head down and practice was great, so we came into the game very aggressive. We ran the ball well and passed the ball well, letting it result in a big sectional win.”
Tri-West played the weather perfectly − temperatures were in the mid-30s during the game − ensuring it would not affect its game plan.

“For some reason, we have some guys on the team who just do not get cold,” Sorgi said. “I thought it was pretty cold, so I was sure to bundle up, but we have a tough team, and no matter the weather, we’re going to come out here and play.”
Tri-West will host Lawrenceburg (11-1) on Friday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. for a regional championship. The winner will advance to state semifinals.
