Jose Mourinho has launched a furious attack on La Liga’s fixture scheduling, accusing the competition’s organisers of treating Real Madrid unfairly and demanding they “leave us alone”.
The Real Madrid manager was unhappy with the limited recovery time afforded to his players following their Champions League trip to AEK Athens, questioning why his side had been given a more demanding schedule than Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
Asked whether he had a message for Tebas and La Liga, the Portuguese coach initially insisted he needed to remain respectful before delivering a his dig.
“No, no message, I have to stay humble, because they have all the power,” Mourinho said.
“All I ask is that they don’t do things like this to us again, where we play on Sunday, then Wednesday, then Saturday, it makes no sense, it’s a joke.
“Barca and Atleti played on Tuesday and Sunday, so why should we play Wednesday and Sunday, and have to sleep at Valdebebas, because we landed from Athens at 3am?” he continued.
“I ask them to leave us alone.”
His revelation that Madrid’s players were forced to sleep at the club’s Valdebebas training complex after landing from Athens at 3am illustrates the disruption caused by their European commitments.
