A Penn State and Steelers legend suffered a medical emergency before his on-air duties on Saturday.
Pro Football and College Hall of Famer Jack Ham was taken to the hospital in Washington state before calling the Nittany Lions’ game against the University of Washington.
“Penn State Sports Network analyst Jack Ham experienced a medical emergency earlier today and was transported to the University of Washington Medical Center, where he is being treated,” Penn State said in a statement.
“We do not have further information at this time.”
Ham, who was an All-American linebacker at Penn State during his playing days, received an outpouring of support, including from Washington’s athletics department.
“The Washington community sends its thoughts and prayers to Jack Ham, his family and the Penn State community,” the school wrote on X.
Ham, a Johnstown, Pa., native, excelled at Penn State before going on to a storied career with the Steelers.
He was a key part of the famed “Steel Curtain” defense and won four Super Bowls and earned eight Pro Bowl and six All-Pro nods. He played his entire 12-year career with Pittsburgh, retiring after the 1982 season.

He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1988 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1990.
Ham has served as an analyst for Penn State football since 2000 and also works in a similar analyst capacity for Westwood One.
