Giants QB J.J. McCarthy leaves game vs. Eagles early after taking shot to his shoulder

New York Giants quarterback J.J. McCarthy left their matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles early on Sunday afternoon after he took a shot directly to his throwing shoulder.

McCarthy, on just their second play of the third quarter, scrambled for a few yards up the left side. But as he went down, McCarthy turned and lowered his right shoulder — which was then drilled hard by Eagles linebacker Zack Baun.

McCarthy was quickly replaced by backup Jameis Winston, and went over to the sidelines.

Clearly, though, McCarthy’s injury was a big problem. He was seen trying to throw the ball on the sidelines, but he was in so much pain and actually dropped down to the ground after screaming out. He slammed his helmet down to the bench out of frustration, too.

McCarthy eventually jogged off to the locker room. Further specifics of his injury are not yet known.

This post will be updated with more information shortly.
