Sunday’s afternoon NFL slate continues with a cross-conference matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Las Vegas Raiders, as Brock Purdy and the Niners offense hopes to keep things rolling against the middling Raiders.
Las Vegas enters the matchup with a bit of momentum after a win over the New York Jets, though their 4-4 record needs more of a kickstart to stay in playoff contention. Another round of San Francisco injuries — this time to receivers Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel Sr. — may also make the Raiders’ job a little easier against the still dynamic 49ers offense.

The Niners, though coming off a bye week, are also dealing with some off-field drama from this week, with the return of Brandon Aiyuk and a denied trade from Jauan Jennings hanging over Sunday’s matchup.
Still, this looks like San Francisco’s game to lose, on the way to getting a league-best 7-1 record — unless the Raiders can play spoilers.

49ers star defensive end Nick Bosa is officially active for Week 9, returning to action after missing each of the past five games with a calf strain suffered in practice.
Unfortunately, San Francisco is still dealing with injuries, without wide receivers Mike Evans (Achilles) and Deebo Samuel Sr. (hamstring) for Week 9 as they come out of the bye. The team also placed Christian Kirk on injured reserve with a knee injury this week after making his debut with the team ahead of the bye in Week 6.

The Las Vegas Raiders have not received trade calls on veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Sunday.
With the Raiders at 4-4, Cousins has been productive as a passer with 2,124 passing yards, 19 touchdowns and 5 interceptions with 2026 No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza in waiting.
Mendoza briefly saw action in Week 5’s blowout loss against the New England Patriots, going 6-of-8 passing for 48 yards.
Though they haven’t received trade calls, there are still plenty of teams in need of quarterback help — especially the Minnesota Vikings, with whom Cousins spent six seasons from 2018 through 2023, at which time he suffered a season-ending Achilles tear. He played two seasons under current head coach Kevin O’Connell.
