It was a decade after she opted for plastic surgery that she opened up about the same, and revealed that she died for a minute after it.

Heidi opted for plastic surgery in 2009, and in 2018, during an interview with Paper, Heidi Montag shared that her husband, Spencer, thought that he lost her forever after she decided to have 10 surgeries done in a single day, which included a breast augmentation, brow lifts, and a chin reduction, among others. Heidi recalled being in 24-hour care and being in ‘extreme’ pain.
Heidi, in the same interview, said that she had to hit that rock bottom and realize what the actual important thing in her life was. She, in the same interview, went on to reveal that after that incident, a lot of positive things came out, and she had to stand in front of the mirror and ask herself what she did to herself during her healing journey. Speaking about the same episode of life when the reality hit, Heidi Montag said:
“I died for a minute. With that much surgery, I had to have 24-hour nurse care and Spencer didn’t want to leave my side. I was at a recovery center and had Demerol to deal with the pain because it was so extreme. My security guards called Spencer and told him, ‘Heidi’s heart stopped. She’s not going to make it.’ And I easily could’ve. Cutting yourself up isn’t something I’d recommend.”
Heidi stated that her security called her husband and told him that her heartbeat stopped, and she said she could have easily not made it back. Heidi Montag could be quoted as saying:
“A lot of positive things came out of that. I had to look at myself in the mirror every day healing, and be like, ‘What did I do to myself? How did I get here? What is going on?’”

Heidi Montag’s mom learned how much her daughter changed her look during a face-to-face 2010 episode of The Hills, where Heidi appeared in her childhood home and revealed her new face after extensive surgeries.
Heidi’s family got to know about her surgeries from headlines; however, they didn’t see her until their 2010 reunion. Heidi gave her mom a heads-up about being careful about what she would say during the reunion; however, things turned out to be something, which left the mother and the daughter with a ‘no contact’ for two years.
In the episode, Heidi revealed the things she did to herself. Her mom looked visibly disappointed and told her that she was prettier naturally, while questioning her decision to opt for such surgeries, which nearly cost her her life. Heidi asked her mom if she didn’t look good, and her mom said that she was prettier before and had more confidence and self-esteem. It left Heidi crying.
6 years later, in The Mother/Daughter Experiment: Celebrity Edition, Heidi revealed that her mom’s comment made her feel that someone “ripped my (her) heart out of my soul when I needed you (her mom) so badly.”
