A Year Later, Shivamogga Family Grapples With the Echoes of Pahalgam Terror

Bengaluru: One of the victims of Pahalgam terror attack was Manjunath Rao (47), a resident of Shivamogga in Karnataka and his family is yet to come to terms with the loss of their family member when the country goes through a year of the dastardly attack on tourists at Baisaran Valley of Kashmir on April 22 previous year killing 26.

While efforts to contact Pallavi, wife of victim Manjunath Rao went futile, a relative of victim Majunath Rao, Ravi Kiran, a doctor in Shivamogga told Deccan Chronicle on Tuesday “Everyone is in grief. The pain will be even more in the bereaved family when going through a year of attack.”

“Friends and relatives are with the family of Manjunath Rao. We cannot take the pain they are going through at the moment with the loss of Manjunath Rao,” said the doctor and stated “Friends and relatives try to comfort the victim’s family to minimise the pain in them.” Despite the pain of losing their family member, Ravi Kiran stated “Life has to go on.”

Manjunath Rao, a realtor of Shivamogga left from Kashmir on April 19 last year along with his wife Pallavi and son Abhijan (18). Manjunath wanted to celebrate his son’s success in the second Pre-University Course examination in which he passed with 97 percent in commerce stream.

When the family were in Baisaran Valley of Kashmir, armed militants gunned down tourists at the Valley while Manjunath was shot in front of his wife Pallavi and son Abhijan. Then, Pallavi recalled “the person who shot dead my husband was passing through when I asked him to shoot her as well. Even my son asked him to gun him down as well. But, the militant spared us and left saying “Go and ask Modi (Prime Minister Narendra Modi).” Manjunath was to return to Shivamogga on April 24 before he was gunned down.
