Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday said that it had caught Sirikenda Saidulu, assistant divisional engineer of TG Transco in Devarakonda of Nalgonda district, while taking a Rs 30,000 bribe to process and forward a Rs 7.10 crore bill linked to restoration work on a storm-damaged 33/11 kV line connected to the Kambalapally substation.

The ACB Nalgonda Range unit registered the case against Saidulu after he was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the money from the complainant. The complainant’s details were withheld for security reasons.

According to the ACB, the bill pertained to electrical work carried out to restore the damaged line after a storm on October 29, 2025.

The ACB said the tainted Rs 30,000 was recovered from Saidulu’s possession. Saidulu is arrested and will be produced before the I-Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases in Nampally for judicial remand. The case is under investigation.

Road safety drive conducted for NH-44

Hyderabad: A foundation, in collaboration with the government of Telangana and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), on Thursday launched a road safety intervention programme on a 251-km stretch of National Highway-44 between Hyderabad and Adilabad, identified as one of India’s highest-burden corridors for road crash fatalities.

The initiative, launched during the Arrive Alive Road Safety Week as part of the government’s 99-day Praja Palana programme, will introduce structured and technology-driven protocols for accident response. Measures include improved ambulance coordination and deployment of trained medical personnel to ensure timely treatment.

The agencies have identified 45 high-risk clusters along the stretch, which account for nearly 60 per cent of all road crash deaths on this corridor.

Railway, state officials discuss high-speed rail corridors

Hyderabad: Government and South Central Railway officials on Thursday conducted a preliminary discussion on proposals for high-speed rail corridors connecting Hyderabad with Bengaluru, Chennai and Pune. They reviewed the proposal for the Regional Ring Rail project and took stock of infrastructure works underway in the state, including Road Under Bridges (RUBs), Road Over Bridges (ROBs), new railway lines, station development and approaches.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and South Central Railway (SCR) general manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, along with senior officials from the state government and railways, focused on strengthening coordination between the two sides.

The railways sought the state government’s support for sanction and execution of RUB and ROB works, including issuance of NOCs, land acquisition, traffic diversion, and shifting of utilities such as electric lines and pipelines. Cooperation was also sought for new railway line projects, particularly in land acquisition and cost sharing.

Addressing the meeting, Srivastava said, “The completion of various ongoing Rail infrastructure projects discussed will not only be beneficial for the people but will also contribute to the economic development of the state.” He added that “the support from the state government will greatly accelerate the pace of execution of these projects.”

Ramakrishna Rao stressed the need for structured engagement and closer coordination between the state government and Railways. He said, “Integrated planning and cooperation between different departments is essential for the development of the state. Better communication and understanding between the state and Railways will help to resolve any issues and contribute towards the betterment of the people.”

“We trained and educated the students on important road safety rules and practices. During the interaction, students asked several questions on road safety,” said G Ravinder, motor vehicle inspector from the Bandlaguda RTA Office. Teachers, including Venkatesh, Neeraja, Nafees Siddiqui, Anitha and Kavitha, took part in the training.

The Children’s Traffic Awareness Park, launched by the transport department in February, is designed to help children learn safe road practices through practical demonstrations.
