ACB Raids HMWS&SB General Manager, Unearths Disproportionate Assets Worth Over ₹5.8 Crore

Hyderabad: The Anti Corruption Bureau during a raid on Tuesday on multiple locations belonging to Sangam Anantha Laxmi Kumar, a HMWS&SB general manager, and unearthed assets worth over Rs.5.8 crore, as per government valuation. The ACB also found papers regarding landed property. Sources said the market value of the assets could be much higher.

The ACB said it had recovered about Rs.1.1 crore in cash, about 2.1 kg of gold ornaments, and silver articles weighing 9.2 kg. Together with two vehicles, the assets were valued at Rs.5,88,55,490.

Kumar is a general manager, enginnering at the HMWS&SB, Division-VIII at Red Hills. Searches were conducted at Kumar’s residence and eight other places belonging to his relatives, friends, benamis and associates.

Apart from this, the ACB said it had seized documents relating to 18 acres of agricultural land in Nizamabad and Sangareddy, six open plots, three flats and a house in Hyderabad. The market value of movable and immovable property may be many times higher than the document value, the ACB said

The ACB booked a case of disproportionate assets against Laxmi, 58; the suspicion is that he acquired the assets by allegedly indulging in corrupt practices and dubious means. This is punishable under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

The seized documents are being examined, and officials are collecting further details from the accused officer as part of the ongoing investigation.

The QR code of the ACB is displayed in all government offices and prominent public places which people could use to contact the bureau, the ACB said. The name and details of the victim/complainant will be kept secret, Sindhu Saume, joint director (central zone), ACB said in a press release.
