Michael Gunning was blindsided by his exile due to his closeness to Adam Peaty’s estranged mum, with sources saying ‘none of his former life is involved with his new life at all’
Adam Peaty‘s fall out with former Team GB team-mate Michael Gunning has brought his isolation into sharp focus after he cut ties with his one-time closest friend.
Last week, Michael opened up about the issue and while insisting there is “no bitterness” between them, it has since been revealed he underwent therapy to deal with the end of their friendship. Things reportedly soured between them when Michael was said to have been uninvited from Adam’s wedding to Gordon Ramsay’s daughter Holly last year.
Michael, 32, has revealed he’s happy for Adam but the newly-married star is now realising that the tight circle of friends he once had are growing fewer and fewer. The pair were best mates and trained together every day but things have changed for them both.
It was claimed that his closeness and loyalty to Adam’s estranged mum Caroline was said to be the final straw for Adam, who struck Michael off the invite list when he wed Holly in December.
Michael, meanwhile, appears to have made peace with the breakdown of their friendship, wishing Adam, Holly and their unborn child all the best.
“I have no bitterness, and I genuinely wish him, Holly and their baby daughter nothing but happiness,” he says. “I’ll always be grateful and I have so many happy memories, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without having him as a friend.”
But worried friends have said “the whole situation is tragic” as they suggest Adam ignores any attempts to reconcile.
“Michael has offered an olive branch as such, but no one is holding out any hope that Adam will respond,” an insider told The Sun.
“People who know both the men think Michael hasn’t been treated very well at all throughout all of this. He is completely laser focused on Holly and has ignored any attempts to reconcile with his mum.
“Holly and Adam are very isolated really, none of his former life is involved with his new life at all.”
It was claimed Michael was blindsided by his exile at the time.
Another source said: “Michael is feeling very hurt by the couple, especially Adam, given how publicly supportive he was of Adam when he went through a rough time in 2023. Given how close they once were, Michael never would have seen this coming.”
Michael wasn’t the only person caught up in Adam’s family fallout. His sister Bethany was the only member of the Peaty family to attend the wedding, and now she too has cut ties with him.
Last week, it was revealed that she had stopped speaking to Adam after messages telling him she was expecting a baby girl – just like Adam and Holly – went unanswered.
The Ramsay family have thrown their support behind Adam, 31, as he continues to compete in the run-up to the birth of his second child, his first with Holly, but sources say Bethany was left feeling “used and upset” by the snub.
