Adam Ramsay-Peaty watched his gold dreams disappeared again with another bronze medal finish. And he was consoled by his wife, Holly Ramsay-Peaty after his third-placed podium finish in the 50m breaststroke final at the Commonwealth Games.
Pregnant Holly was in the stands in Glasgow to cheer on her man. But he had to settle with another bronze, matching his efforts in the 100m breaststroke.
The duo were seen hugging in the aftermath of the event. But they seemed content with what was going on, with Holly smiling as her husband rubbed her growing baby bump. She was also seen giving him a hug.
It comes as Adam, 31, opened up on a tough few years in the sport – and outside of his career. But he said all eyes are on the future and their unborn baby.
Speaking to TNT Sports after his latest efforts in the water, he admitted he had been through a tough two years. He said things had been “pretty tough to get that speed back” and confessed he will “have to learn this experience as a whole really”.
Adam told reporters: “I think for me just getting back to the enjoyment of racing. I’ve really enjoyed tonight. I made a few errors but you can train the hardest in the world and you can work the hardest in the world but it doesn’t really matter unless you’re race polished and I’m not.”
He added: “: “I’m not going to be too hard on myself because I’m incredibly proud of the journey I’ve been on my whole career. Even in this room, 12 years ago I’m a different man, well, I wasn’t even a man then.
“Now look at me I’ve got nearly a six year old and a daughter on the way in December so it’s all in perspective and sometimes I think the hard times are more important than the good.”
The goal now remains a medal at the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028. But the swimmer admitted he is happier in himself than when he was dominating the sport.
After his 100m bronze medal, he had emotionally said he “deserved more” after all his efforts after several years away.
He said after Saturdays’ event: “It took a lot of courage to get back into the sport, so we should be happy with everything we get, but then that contradicts the athlete inside me and what I work for.
“I just think I deserve more. I know sport isn’t about what you deserve or even what you work for – it’s who gets it on the day. I just know I’m a better athlete than that. It’s very disappointing.”
