The end of Sunday’s Giants vs. Commanders matchup was astounding, and NFL insider Adam Schefter expects it to have future consequences for Washington.
On Monday’s edition of “Get Up,” Schefter compared the mistake by Dan Quinn and the Commanders that led to a 27-27 tie in overtime to the aftermath of the Miracle at the Meadowlands — the infamous Giants fumble against the Eagles in 1978 that cost offensive coordinator Bob Gibson his job the following morning and head coach John McVay his job at the end of the season.
“There were consequences, and we don’t know when it’ll be, but I would imagine in time there’s going to be consequences from this game,” Schefter said.
Former NFL head coach Rex Ryan also shared his dismay at the blunder.
“The dumbest thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” Ryan chastised. “This has never happened, there’s no chance in hell this has ever happened, and it won’t happen again. Our lifetime, our kids’ lifetime, their kids’ lifetime. This is atrocious!”
Ryan assured that Quinn might be in trouble after the blunder, which he took responsibility for after the game.
“We’ve seen the worst clock management ever in the Super Bowl,” Ryan said, referring to Super Bowl LI when Quinn’s Falcons blew a 28-3 lead to the Patriots.
“How about we own this one too? This stuff right here gets you fired. And Dan’s a great guy, but not for long when you manage games like this.”

The Commanders failed to capitalize as they had the ball for the final possession of overtime on Sunday.
After taking a sack with eight seconds left on the clock, quarterback Jayden Daniels let the clock run out before giving the Washington kicker a chance to win the game in what would have been a 42-yard field goal.
Ryan wasn’t the only one tearing into the Commanders’ clock management. Their own radio booth called it “brutal” and “not how you execute.”
Both Quinn and Daniels took responsibility for how the game ended, but public reaction has most of the blame falling on the coach.
