I’m A Celebrity winner Adam Thomas has declared that he will never watch the ITV show with his kids again following his bullying row with David Haye

Adam Thomas believes I’m A Celebrity is “tarnished” for him following his “inescapable” bullying row with David Haye, insisting that he will never watch it with his children again.

The Emmerdale actor, who shares Teddy and Elsie-Rose with wife Caroline Daly, was crowned the winner of the ITV competition at the end of a tense live finale on Friday night.

The 37-year-old didn’t have the easiest time of it in the South African jungle after facing off with boxer David, who branded him “useless” for not wanting to complete a Bushtucker trial due to illness.

Appearing on the latest episode of his At Home With The Thomas Bros podcast, he shed light on his second appearance on the series, telling his siblings: “No one knows, even now, me explaining it, you’ll never understand. I’ll never understand. It’s so hard to process everything I’ve been through. The fact that it’s just been turned into entertainment for live TV, for a family show that I loved.

“I’ve got so much to thank this show for. 10 years ago, this show put me on the map. It was the first show I did that was reality, people got to see me for the very first time ever. I probably would never have the career I’ve had if it wasn’t for this show so I owe a lot to this show.”

Adam first competed on I’m A Celeb in 2016 and finished up in third place behind Joel Dommett and Scarlett Moffatt. When bosses asked him to return for the All Stars series a decade later, he was left “grateful” by the opportunity and jumped at the chance.

“I just wanted to go back and experience it all over again. But it’s sad now because the way I always looked at this show, the way I perceived this show, it’s tarnished for me, “ he confessed. “The problem is now, I just can’t escape it. It’ll always be on. I used to sit down with my kids and watch this show, and now I won’t be able to do that. That’s the sad thing for me because it will just remind me of the experience I went through.

“Even after the live show and everything that’s happened, I still can’t escape it. The algorithm, everyone talking about it, everyone saying their bit and how they saw it. Everyone’s got an opinion on the matter. I’m just tired, I just want it all to go away and just be forgotten about.”

Tearing up, he said: “The sad truth is that everyone will go on with their lives, everyone will. But, for me, this will be in me for the rest of my life. I will live with everything that’s happened – from the very start to the very finish – it’s part of my DNA now. This has made me the person I am and it’s hard because, right now, I can’t see any light. I can’t see the positive in it … I know that time will come.”

David’s behaviour left many uncomfortable, with viewers threatening to turn off. Broadcasting watchdog Ofcom confirmed that they received more than 170 reports over the episode where he called out Adam for skipping a task.

Unpacking his efforts further, the soap star left his brothers shocked when he described another moment where he was “manipulated” in a vicious move, which left him ranting to TV bosses. At one point, David pulled him aside and asked if he “had been crying” about his behaviour to producers in the Bush Telegraph, claiming that they had asked the athlete “to stop now”.

“That was when I realised. I was like, ‘They know. They know what’s been going on’, and that upset me more because it’s the fact that I’ve never once mentioned you [David] or talked about you and what you’ve done to me, to them. But they know now, holy s**t,” he recalled.

‘So I’ve gone in there, just breaking down, asking ‘how could you do this?’. They said “Adam, we’ve never once said anything to David about your mental health, or any of that.”

‘I asked David when I got out and he was like, “Yeah I just made it all up.” I was like, wow, you really f**king manipulated the s**t out of me.’ He got in my head like you wouldn’t believe.’
