Draper to face the Dons for first time

It may not be the first expression that comes to outsiders’ minds when asked to describe one of the AFL’s most exuberant characters.

But Cam Rayner expects “level-headed” teammate Sam Draper to be just that today as the Lions take on Essendon.

It will be Draper’s first meeting with the Bombers since defecting to the reigning back-to-back premiers as an unrestricted free agent in the off-season.

“He’s very similar to Joey [Daniher], very level-headed,” Rayner said.

Welcome to another big Saturday

Good afternoon, and welcome to our AFL coverage today. My name is Hannah Kennelly, and I’ll be hosting you.

There are four games to be played on Saturday: Essendon take on the reigning premiers, the Brisbane Lions at Marvel Stadium; over in the west it’s the battle of the cellar dwellers as West Coast host the depleted Richmond; Geelong are hosting the rising Kangaroos at GMHBA Stadium; and finally tonight, Tom De Koning and Jack Silvagni will face their old side Carlton, when the Blues host the Saints.

Thanks for joining us today.
