Jurgen Klopp’s agent says the former Liverpool boss has no desire to return to club management after again being linked with the Real Madrid job.
Klopp has received several offers since leaving Liverpool in 2024 but is content in his current role of Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull.
Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme, who has been causing waves with a raft of claims on what he would do if he beats incumbent Florentino Perez in tomorrow’s elections, said last night that Klopp would be his choice to replace Alvaro Arbeloa at the Santiago Bernabeu.
But Marc Kosicke, Klopp’s representative, said the German would not be tempted.
“It’s annoying. Jürgen Klopp is happy in his role at Red Bull and has no ambition to work as a coach in a club,” said Kosicke.
“The Real Madrid chapter is currently closed for him, especially in the current situation and the surrounding circumstances.”
Kosicke did give a hint, however, to Klopp’s next adventure after Red Bull, adding: “The only job that is particularly attractive to him in the future is the German national team.”
Riquelme targets Klopp and claims “Real Madrid is different”
Riquelme announced earlier this week that former Madrid striker Raul would be his sporting director if he beats Perez and then caused a major stir by claiming he would entice Manchester City duo Rodri and Erling Haaland to the club for next season.
The 37-year-old has already said he does not want Perez’s preferred option of Jose Mourinho to become coach and believes Klopp is a natural fit.
He said: “We know that Jürgen Klopp has publicly stated he has no intention of returning to the dugout in the short term, and that he has turned down numerous offers.
“That is precisely why we believe the challenge of Real Madrid is different. Because there are great clubs, but there is only one Real Madrid. There is only one institution capable of uniting tradition and future, values and ambition, passion and excellence.
“For that reason, if the members grant me their trust this Sunday, on Monday Raúl will contact Jürgen Klopp to convey to him personally our sporting project and our wish for him to be the one to lead, from the bench, a new era for Real Madrid.
“We are speaking of one of the finest coaches of our time. But, above all, we are speaking of a leader capable of restoring to Real Madrid the competitive intensity, the daily demands, the professionalism, the meritocracy, the dressing-room unity and the pride in a job well done that have always characterised the great eras of our history.”
