Vijayawada: An agricultural exhibition showcasing modern farming technologies was inaugurated by Agriculture Principal Secretary Budithi Rajasekhar on Saturday at Uyyuru as part of the 4th State Conference of the Andhra Pradesh Tenant Farmers’ Association.
The expo featured high-yielding seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, harvesting and sowing machinery, drones and Ayurvedic products displayed by various companies. A photo gallery tracing milestones in India’s farmers’ movements also drew visitors.
Farmers and tenant farmers took part in a rally accompanied by Teenmaar drums, while cultural performances by Praja Natya Mandali artistes added colour to the event.
Rajasekhar urged farmers to adopt modern technology and mechanisation to achieve higher yields with lower investment. He advised the judicious use of fertilisers and pesticides and stressed the need to reduce cultivation costs.
He highlighted income opportunities in horticulture, fisheries and animal husbandry, and called for wider awareness of a mobile app developed to support tenant farmers and promote natural farming.
Former minister Vadde Shobhanadreeswara Rao underlined the importance of tenant farmers and expressed concern over rising suicides linked to debt. He urged the government to create awareness on tenancy agreements and advocated the use of small farm machinery to reduce rural unemployment.
