Ahan Shetty isn’t taking a breather. Fresh off Border 2, the actor is gearing up for his next film, an action drama titled Sanki, which starts rolling in Bhopal on October 30.
The film is directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, the man behind Rustom and Mission Raniganj, and written by Gyanendra Vasudev. Desai has already reached Bhopal with his crew to finish the last round of preparations. The makers are blending romance, intense emotion and high-octane action, though the story and Ahan’s character are being kept firmly under wraps for now.
Pooja Hegde is reportedly the leading lady. The film is expected to release in theatres in the first half of 2027. It follows a big year for Ahan. In Border 2, which was inspired by the 1971 India-Pakistan war and also starred Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh, he stepped into a franchise his father, Suniel Shetty, had been a part of. The comparisons were inevitable, and Ahan knew it. “That last scene that was there, unfortunately, we weren’t able to shoot that together. But yeah, if I think about him being a part of ‘Border’ and then me being a part of ‘Border 2’, I knew there were always going to be comparisons,” he said.
Sanki, though, is a different ballgame. At the mahurat of 1920 Cold Winter, Ahan said he is excited to be back in the action zone after Border 2 but promised that this would be an entirely different experience from the earlier film.
That is a promising sign for a young actor who debuted with Tadap in 2021 and is still building his own identity on screen. A film that asks him to balance a love story with hard-hitting action is a good test of both his heart and his hustle.
Given Desai’s track record with grounded, real-life dramas, it will also be interesting to see how he handles a romance with action at its core.
The cameras roll tomorrow. The story will take a little longer to unfold.
