Bengaluru: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Saturday said the younger generation must adapt to changing global trends by acquiring new skills and exploring alternative employment opportunities, particularly in blue-collar sectors, amid growing concerns over the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on white-collar jobs.
Participating in The Hindu Huddle 2026 organised by The Hindu in Bengaluru, the Chief Minister said AI-driven technological advancements were transforming the employment landscape and that youth should equip themselves with industry-relevant skills to remain competitive.
“Many are worried that AI will eliminate white-collar jobs. The alternative lies in blue-collar employment. Young people must focus on acquiring the necessary skills to seize emerging opportunities,” he said.
Revanth Reddy highlighted Telangana government’s efforts to strengthen skill development through initiatives such as the Young India Skills University and the modernisation of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) into Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs).
The Chief Minister also elaborated on the state’s long-term development vision under Telangana Rising 2047, aimed at transforming Telangana into a $3 trillion economy. He outlined the government’s focus on welfare and economic growth through programmes benefiting farmers, youth and women.
Claiming that Telangana had undertaken one of the country’s largest recruitment drives, he said the government filled 67,760 posts within 15 months after reforming the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) on the lines of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). He added that fresh recruitment notifications had recently been issued and another 5,000 police vacancies would be notified soon.
On agriculture, Revanth Reddy said the government waived farm loans worth Rs 20,616 crore benefiting over 25 lakh farmer families, describing it as the largest farm loan waiver in the country. Citing NCRB data, he claimed Telangana reported no farmer suicides during 2024-25.
The Chief Minister also highlighted women empowerment initiatives, stating that women self-help groups had availed loans worth Rs 60,000 crore at zero interest and were actively participating in sectors such as public transport, renewable energy, fuel retailing and public services.
Explaining Telangana’s development strategy, he said the government had classified regions around Hyderabad into CURE (Core Urban Region Economy), PURE (Peri Urban Region Economy) and RARE (Rural Agricultural Region Economy) zones to drive balanced urban, industrial and agricultural growth.
He further said Telangana was positioning itself to compete globally for investments, particularly as companies explore alternatives under the “China Plus One” strategy, and announced plans to visit China to study best practices in development and governance.
Reflecting on his political journey, Revanth Reddy said his years in the Opposition helped him understand grassroots issues and reinforced his commitment to public service, particularly for farmers, youth, women and weaker sections.
