Akashvani Marks 90 Years With Youth Contests in Vijayawada

Vijayawada:Marking 90 years of Akashvani, All India Radio organised youth-centric essay-writing and elocution competitions in Vijayawada on Tuesday, the city’s Akashvani programme executive Nannam Madhu stating that the public broadcaster has earned recognition for delivering credible information and quality programmes catering to every section of society, especially students and young aspirants in education and career development.

As part of the celebrations, the competitions were held at KBN College on the themes “Role of Akashvani in Nation Building” and “90-Year Journey of Akashvani.”

Addressing students, Madhu said Akashvani has consistently prioritised trustworthy news and socially relevant programmes. Transmission executive S.L.N. Raju said the ‘News On Air’ mobile application has brought Akashvani closer to the public and enhanced its accessibility.

He announced that winners would be felicitated during a programme to be held at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram on May 10. The winners will also get an opportunity to host a programme as co-jockeys on radio for a day.

In the Telugu essay-writing category, K. Poojitha and B. Triveni secured first and second prizes respectively, while C.H. Kaushik and K. Hema won the top two positions in the English category. In the elocution contest, K. Shravani and M. Sri Twisha emerged as winners, while K. Poojitha and Y. Pravallika secured top honours in the Telugu section.

Principal Dr G. Krishnaveni, Vice-Principal Dr K. Ramakrishna, Dr M. Venkateswara Rao and P.L. Ramesh congratulated the winners.
