Alan Carr is a National Treasure and has been a staple on screens for years – but it’s fair to say his love life has often made the headlines too.
From having his own chat show Alan Carr: Chatty Man to winning Celebrity Traitors, comedian and presenter Alan has remained booked and busy since shooting to fame. He’s also the host of his own gameshow ITV’s Alan Carr’s Picture Slam, and Alan even showed off his acting chops in films like 2009’s Christmas classic, Nativity!
And just this week, it was announced that he will be joining Davina McCall, Maya Jama, Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan as a judge on the next series of The Masked Singer.
Away from the TV sets and shows though, Alan has had a tumultuous love life in recent times. But who is his ex-husband? And what update did he give recently about his relationship status? Here’s everything we know about Alan’s love life…
Alan and ex-husband Paul
Alan was with his ex-husband, Paul Drayton, for 13 years. The pair first met in 2006 and after 10 years of dating, Paul asked Alan to marry him while on a holiday to Indonesia. He told The Sun at the time: “He asked me to marry him in Lombok… I went to the toilet and came out to eat dessert.”
Alan added: “I was like, ‘Oh my God, a filling’s come out, just my luck on holiday.’ I pull it out and it’s this ring, and then the man on the organ starts singing, Can You Feel The Love Tonight?”
Alan and Paul went on to make things official and got married in 2018 in LA, with Adele officiating the ceremony. The couple also shared a life on a farm they purchased in West Sussex, where they raised animals together.
Alan’s split from Paul
Sadly, Paul and Alan ended up splitting in lockdown and divorced in 2022. They never confirmed the reason for their split, but insisted it was a joint and ‘amicable’ decision to part ways. Alan shared in 2022 how his divorce was very ‘raw’ and his telly show and tour felt therapeutic after the divorce.
In early 2023, Alan spoke out about his relationship with Paul, whose struggle with alcoholism was well documented, after their split. He said: “I don’t hate him. It takes up too much energy. We have all got to move on.”
Alan then admitted that he found dating apps difficult to get on with, saying: “People ask if I am doing the apps but I find it quite triggering.”
Alan’s romance with toyboy boyfriend
Near the end of 2023, Alan revealed he had found love again when he went ‘Instagram official’ with celebrity hairstylist Callum Heslop – who is 20 years younger. Callum has worked as a celebrity hairstylist for eight years, having worked closely with Amanda Holden, Helen Flanagan and Charlotte Dawson, and owns his own salon in Knutsford, Cheshire.
The pair reportedly went on a romantic getaway together in the US and were said to have been invited to Adele’s plush pad in LA for Thanksgiving dinner. Speaking to The Sun, an insider claimed Alan and Callum started off as friends, but their bond soon grew romantic.
“They have a really nice friendship and that has been the base for a relationship to blossom,” the source claimed. “He meets celebs through his job, so isn’t fazed. It takes a lot to introduce a partner to someone as famous as Adele, but she couldn’t have been friendlier,” they added.
However, in January 2024, Alan split from Callum. A few months later, when asked by the Sun if he had started dating again, Alan joked: “I’m looking, I’m looking. If you know any chubby chasers, let me know.” He also confirmed the situation with MailOnline, telling the publication: “I’m single again, b****y single.
Alan’s romance update
At the start of the year, Alan declared that he was looking for love again and had even put himself back out there on dating apps. He told Woman’s Weekly: “A new year’s resolution: ‘Let’s find love’ – that’s the only thing that’s missing in my life.”
However, just months later and recently, Alan shared an update on his love life, joking that he “might as well chemically castrate myself”. He told The Telegraph: “I’ve got no more romance in me. I’ve had enough. Done at 50. That’s it. No more sex. Shop’s closed, gone. I might as well chemically castrate myself.”
