Alex Cooper Slams ‘Smear Campaign’ Against Her Company And Husband, Matt Kaplan, ‘You Read Lies’

Alex Cooper has recently found herself in the middle of controversy after bombshell reports that her company has a toxic workplace environment. For those unaware, Vanity Fair recently did a lengthy exposé where the outlet spoke to 40 sources, 30 of whom are currently employed at Alex’s media company, Unwell, about their interactions with the Call Her Daddy host and her husband, Matt Kaplan. They claimed that the company is rude with “unprofessional and caustic” behaviour. Amid this, Alex slammed the report, calling it a “smear campaign” and saying that she is held to a “different standard” as a woman. 

Alex Cooper slams reports of a toxic work environment at her media company, Unwell 

Alex Cooper recently sat down for a conversation about her media company, Unwell, at Journal House in Cannes, France. At the very start of the conversation, she was asked to address the report, which claimed that her husband and business partner, Matt Kaplan, had screamed at company staff and even asked inappropriate questions about their sex lives and commented on their physical appearances. To this, Alex said that she is extremely proud of what she and Matt have built at Unwell, and people should not believe everything they read online. In her words:

“I will say that building a startup, there is so much growth that comes with that, and I am extremely proud of what we have built at Unwell. I will just kind of leave it at ‘don’t believe everything that you read on the internet’ — but I think everyone knows that at this point.”

Alex claimed that there were many people in her media company who were incredibly happy to work there. However, she believes that a “smear campaign” might have been created against her, as being a woman in this industry is an extremely difficult task. This is because she is held to a completely different standard. She shared:

“I think that we have done a really incredible job at Unwell, and I think if you walk the halls, there are so many people that are so happy to work at this company. I think, unfortunately, being a woman in this industry is extremely difficult because you’re held to a completely different standard. Whether it’s a smear campaign being created for someone’s narrative, whatever it is.”

Alex Cooper concluded the conversation by saying that when she reads lies about herself, “that is an obvious situation going on.” However, even though it is hard, she revealed that the reason she has had success in this industry is that she has really thick skin. Her exact words were:

“I think when you read lies about yourself to fuel something else that is an obvious situation going on, it’s hard, but I think the reason that I’ve had success in this industry is I have really thick skin, and I’m going to keep pushing forward.”

It is worth noting that amid the allegations that the current and former staff levied against her media company, Unwell, and her husband, Matt Kaplan, Alex announced that she was expecting her first child in May 2026. For those unaware, the duo had tied the knot in April 2024. Prior to the pregnancy announcement, there were speculations that Alex and Matt’s marriage had hit a rocky spot. However, sources close to the couple revealed that any “rumours of tension” in their marriage were false. They added, “They’re so excited about this new chapter. They’ve tried to hold out as long as they could before announcing.”
