The Love Island star turned West End actress shared a scathing rant online after revealing that one theatre-goer was filming their performance on her phone
Amber Davies revealed she asked for an audience member to be removed from a performance of Legally Blonde after claiming they spent much of the first act filming the show. The former Love Island winner, who stars as Elle Woods in the touring production, shared her frustration on social media after Saturday night’s performance at Dublin’s Bord Gáis Energy Theatre.
Speaking in an Instagram video during the interval, Amber explained that one theatre-goer’s actions had distracted the cast throughout the opening act. She said: “This is your daily reminder not to film at the theatre.
“Unfortunately tonight at the Bord Gáis we’ve got a beautiful audience, but there’s just one woman in the front row who has been filming the entirety of Act One. It’s had us all distracted.”
She went on: “It’s ruined the morale of our wonderful eighth show on a Saturday night from selfish actions.”
Amber then revealed she had asked theatre staff to intervene before the second half began. “Hopefully she’s not back for Act Two,” she said. “I’ve asked, can she go so we can just enjoy ourselves.”
The actress also urged theatre-goers to respect the rules during live performances, warning that anyone caught filming could be asked to leave.
“There have been a couple of people filming in Ireland this week,” she added. “I’m the type of person, I will count how many seats away you are from what door and you will be told and asked to leave.
“So yeah guys, don’t film. Let’s just enjoy the two and a half hours together, we don’t need to film everything.”
Recording performances and using flash photography are prohibited at most theatre productions, with venues warning that it can distract performers and other audience members, as well as breach copyright rules.
Amber shot to fame after winning Love Island in 2017 alongside Kem Cetinay and has since built a successful career in musical theatre, starring in productions including 9 to 5: The Musical, Back to the Future and Legally Blonde.
She also appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2025, stepping in at the eleventh hour to replace an injured Dani Dyer and was partnered with Nikita Kuzmin. Amber blew the judges and viewers at home away with her talent and ended up as a joint runner-up behind Karen Carney and her professional dance partner Carlos Gu.
