An All Nippon Airways (ANA) flight bound for Saga Airport made an emergency landing at Naha Airport in Okinawa at 10:05 p.m. on September 23 after developing trouble with its right engine shortly after takeoff, with some passengers suffering minor injuries during an emergency evacuation.
ANA Flight 1502 had departed Naha Airport shortly before 9 p.m. when the aircraft detected a problem with its right engine while airborne, prompting the crew to turn back and make an emergency landing.
Following the landing, all 152 passengers evacuated the aircraft using emergency slides. Some passengers sustained minor injuries during the evacuation.
Passengers were instructed to remain calm as they left the aircraft, with an announcement stating, “No flames are visible. Please remain calm as you disembark.”
One passenger described the frightening moments aboard the aircraft, saying, “There was a tremendous rattling noise and vibration, and everyone was quite nervous.”
Another passenger said the announcement of an emergency evacuation caused further panic. “When they announced the emergency evacuation, we panicked even more, and I ran to escape to protect my family.”
The flight had been arranged as an additional service following the cancellation of another flight bound for Fukuoka. It was scheduled to land at Saga Airport instead because its late-night arrival would have fallen outside Fukuoka Airport’s operating hours.
