Visakhapatnam: Residents of a Jagananna housing colony within Koruvada revenue limits in Kotapadu mandal have urged authorities to address persistent waterlogging that has disrupted daily life after recent rains.
The colony comprises 210 houses allotted to beneficiaries from nine villages under the previous YSRC government’s housing programme. Residents said rainwater had accumulated along the approach road and around the residential area, making access and movement difficult.
They alleged that stagnant water had reached several houses, creating unhygienic conditions and allowing snakes and frogs to enter homes. The residents said the problem had recurred for the second consecutive year.
They said they had earlier brought the issue to the district collector’s attention and sought measures to prevent water stagnation. Rural Water Supply officials later inspected the site and reportedly prepared an estimate of Rs.2.60 lakh to construct a drainage culvert. The proposal was forwarded to the Mandal Parishad for funding.
However, despite discussions at the mandal level, the culvert has not yet been constructed. Residents have appealed to district authorities to expedite the work and provide a permanent solution to the waterlogging problem.
