Andhra Pradesh Celebrates National Doctors’ Day at NTR Medical University

Vijayawada: AP principal secretary (Health) S. Suresh Kumar on Wednesday called on doctors to combine advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and telemedicine, with compassionate care to deliver better healthcare services in the state.

Addressing the National Doctors’ Day celebrations at Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Suresh Kumar said technological advancements could support healthcare delivery. But the human touch and clinical judgement of doctors could never be replaced.

“Treating patients with compassion and winning their confidence is the real achievement for doctors,” the principal secretary underlined.

He reiterated that the state government is committed to providing quality healthcare to all citizens. He pointed out that the Sanjeevani programme, currently being implemented in Kuppam, would be expanded across the state within the next three months.

Suresh Kumar called upon doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, and practitioners of AYUSH, Unani, and Homoeopathy to work together to realise Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s vision of Swarna Andhra – 2047.

Speaking on the occasion, High Power Committee chairman Justice U. Durga Prasad described the medical profession as one of the noblest professions. He recalled the contributions of Dr. B.C. Roy as a physician and freedom fighter. He referred to judicial guidelines framed to minimise inconvenience to doctors required to appear as witnesses in courts.

Vice chancellor of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences Dr. P. Chandrasekhar said society should accord greater recognition to doctors for their service in saving lives despite occupational health risks.

On the day, 10 doctors received the Best Doctor Awards in recognition of their services. They are Dr. Peda Veerraju, Dr. G. Deva Sankaraiah, Dr. W. Sitharaman, Dr. G. Eeswar, Dr. Indla Rama Subba Reddy, Dr. T. Murali Mohan, Dr. P. Murali Krishna, Dr. Pingali Anand Kumar, Dr. K.M.D.F. Rahman Siddique, and Dr. M. Sathya Valli.

The university unveiled a bronze statue of Dr. B.C. Roy on the campus to mark his birth anniversary.
