NELLORE: The SPSR Nellore Police’s court monitoring system (CMS) has helped secure a life sentence for a man convicted of murdering a married woman in a 2016 case, highlighting the impact of close coordination between investigators and prosecutors.
The VIII additional district and sessions court, Nellore, on Thursday convicted Pathan Irfan under Section 302 of the IPC and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹1,000. The court also ordered an additional one-month simple imprisonment in default of payment.
The case dates back to December 17, 2016, when the accused allegedly poured kerosene on a married woman and set her ablaze near Bara Shaheed Dargah in Nellore city. The victim later succumbed to her burn injuries during treatment. Initially registered as an attempted murder case, it was later altered to murder following her death.
Police said the court monitoring system has ensured continuous monitoring of the trial and close coordination among investigating officers, court staff and public prosecutors, enabling the effective presentation of scientific and documentary evidence.
SP Dr Ajitha Vejendla said the district police remained committed to ensuring justice in crimes against women through quality investigation and effective court monitoring. She congratulated the public prosecutor, investigating officer, CMS officer and court liaison staff for securing the conviction.
