The Los Angeles Angels have renewed hope heading into the immediate future, as they are under new management after Arte Moreno’s disappointing 23-year stint as the owner of the franchise. Earlier this year, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE) purchased the Angels franchise from Moreno for a staggering $4 billion.

This suggests that a better future is in the cards for the Angels, as the other sports franchises owned by KSE have been vastly successful in their respective leagues. And for MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, this is the first step family patriarch Stan Kroenke must make to kick off the rebuild in Anaheim after they won just 62 games in 2026.
“If I’m Stan Kroenke, my first calls after I am approved as owner of the Los Angeles Angels would be to the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays. The Brewers, to ask permission to interview Matt Arnold. The Rays, to request the same with Erik Neander,” Rosenthal wrote on his latest column for The Athletic.

“Neither president of baseball operations would necessarily be interested. Both are under contract, so their respective teams might not even allow them to depart. So? The best way for the Angels to send a warning shot to the industry — one even more meaningful than signing free-agent left-hander Tarik Skubal — would be to lure away the architect of one of the World Series participants. Or at the very least, try.”

Putting together a contending team starts by having the best minds in the business lead the franchise from the top. This suggestion from Rosenthal, as he so acknowledged, seems a bit ambitious, as the Brewers and Rays have been vastly successful over the past decade or so and aren’t just about to let one of the chief minds responsible for their success go without a fight.

Nonetheless, this could be the way the Angels signal their intent to join the other KSE-owned franchises as champions. The Denver Nuggets (in 2023), the Los Angeles Rams (in 2022), the Colorado Avalanche (in 2022), and the English Premier League’s Arsenal (in 2026) have all won championships. It’s going to be a long road for the Angels, but they have to start somewhere.
