'Another World' Star Mark Mortimer Dies At 59 From Cancer, Inside His 25-Year Marriage To Christie

Mark Mortimer passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. The actor, best known for his role as ‘Nick Hudson’ on NBC’s long-running soap opera Another World, died on September 23, 2026, at the age of 59. His family recently confirmed the news, saying Mortimer was surrounded by his loved ones as he embarked on a “fearless journey with cancer.”

According to the actor’s obituary published by Moss-Norris Funeral Home in St. Charles, Illinois, Mortimer had been silently battling cancer since his diagnosis in 2024. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Christie, and their daughter, Hunter.

Inside Mark Mortimer’s surviving family

Mark Mortimer spent his life surrounded by love, and his biggest support through the journey has been Christie, his wife of 25 years. The pair met in 2000 at Hunter Mountain in New York. While details about their dating years were never revealed, the couple got married in the early 2000s and later welcomed their daughter, Hunter. His obituary noted:

“Mark’s greatest love story began in 2000, when he met Christie at Hunter Mountain in New York. What followed was 25 years of marriage, adventure, hard work, laughter, faith, risk-taking, reinvention and a love that grew deeper through every season.”

Beyond their family life, Mark and Christie also worked together professionally. Mortimer became a co-owner of Inside Out Construction alongside Christie and a business partner, Dave, and they grew their business together for over 20 years. According to his family, the actor greatly valued their business and cherished his work relationships.

His obituary also remembers him as a loving family man and a devoted father. Mortimer and Christie were blessed with parenthood after trying for 11 years. When Hunter was born, their lives revolved around the well-being of their dear daughter, and Mark remained deeply involved in every pursuit. His family wrote:

“Mark loved being Hunter’s dad. He was honest with her. He was present. And everything he did as her father was filled with love. When Hunter was little, Mark put her to bed every night. As she grew, he made the deliberate choice to build his life around being her father. He didn’t fit fatherhood in; he scheduled his work life around fatherhood. Being there for Hunter was never something Mark squeezed into his schedule. She was the schedule.”

Mortimer is survived by Christie and their daughter, Hunter, along with his parents, siblings, nieces and nephews.

Mark Mortimer’s final years after being diagnosed with cancer

Mark Mortimer turned his cancer journey into a meaningful purpose, being determined to spread awareness about the disease. In 2024, after his diagnosis, he and his wife, Christie, founded the Integrative Access Foundation, an organization created to provide education, advocacy, and financial access to integrative cancer therapies that can be out of reach for many patients.

The foundation also has a podcast, Beyond the Diagnosis, which aims to further assist families through discussions about caregiving, faith, and resilience. Speaking about Mark’s fearless take on the deadly disease, his family wrote in the obituary:

“Mark showed those who loved him that courage is not the absence of fear. It is choosing to live, love, laugh, hope, and trust God even when the road ahead is uncertain.”

Mortimer joined Another World in 1996, taking over the role of ‘Nick Hudson’ after Justin Chambers and Kevin McClatchy. He remained on the NBC soap until its final episode in 1999, appearing in more than 80 episodes. His other screen credits included a 1999 appearance on Spin City and the 2005 film The Nowhere Man. After leaving acting, Mortimer moved into construction and business, eventually helping build IOC Construction in Illinois.

For Another World viewers, Mortimer will forever be remembered as ‘Nick Hudson’. But for his close ones, he was a loving husband, a doting dad, and a son who loved deeply.

Rest in peace, Mark.
