Anthony Volpe needs follow tested blueprint as Yankees show they’re all in after facts changed

The Yankees acted rationally and correctly Sunday afternoon when they told Anthony Volpe he was being optioned to the minors, as The Post first reported. It was right to stick with José Caballero as the shortstop because:

1. Caballero has done this year to Volpe what Trent Grisham did last year to Jasson Domínguez — won a job for an all-in team that has to play the best choice. That must be honored.

2. The Yankees are not constructed to find enough playing time for Volpe as a bench player, especially with no indicators Volpe would be useful in reserve.

3. The Yankees have sensational vibes right now. Fair or unfair, Volpe is a lightning rod. And while they are surging, the Yanks should not risk reintroducing a player the fans could so quickly turn on if he and/or the team plummets, which would layer unneeded negativity on the group.
