Veteran actor Anupam Kher is celebrating a major milestone as his debut film Saaransh completes 42 years since its release. Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, the 1984 classic marked the beginning of Anupam’s  journey in cinema. On the occasion, the actor shared a heartfelt video looking back on his career and expressing gratitude for the love and support he has received over the decades.

Reflecting on his journey, Anupam Kher said, “42 years ago, my first film Saaransh was released at Mumbai’s Metro Cinema. I didn’t even realise how these 42 years passed by. In these 42 years, I have received immense love from the film industry, the audience, technicians, directors, producers, and co-actors. I never imagined that 42 years later, when I would be making this video, I would have completed 551 films.”

The actor also spoke about perseverance and how determination can make anything possible. He said, “If a clerk’s son from a college department can come to Mumbai with just Rs 37, and in his first film, despite being 28 years old, play the role of a 65-year-old man, and 42 years later can say he has done 551 films—anything is possible.” In the caption of his post, Kher described Saaransh as the most defining chapter of his life and thanked everyone who contributed to his remarkable journey in the entertainment industry.

Released in 1984, Saaransh starred Anupam Kher, Rohini Hattangadi, Madan Jain, Nilu Phule, Suhas Bhalekar and Soni Razdan. The film follows an elderly couple in Mumbai dealing with the heartbreaking loss of their only son. It also remains memorable for launching Anupam Kher’s acting career, with the then 28-year-old actor earning widespread acclaim for portraying 65-year-old B.V. Pradhan in his very first film.
