Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh got a huge response for Census-2027 on its first day on Thursday, with 49,145 persons attempting for self-enumeration in which 35,625 have been completed, while 13,520 attempts remained incomplete but can be completed subsequently.
Karnataka, which held the Census-2027 from April 1 to 15, got response from 34,533 persons for self-enumeration on the first day. Of them, only 18,027 were completed. This shows AP got a very good response from the citizens.
The state government has come up with a 15 days action plan wherein each day has been allotted for specific sectors and district collectors have been entrusted with the task to monitor it. Accordingly, on the first day, the collectors facilitated the self-enumeration of all the public functionaries including ministers, MPs, MLA, MLCs etc in all the districts. On the second day, all the secretariat staff members would do self-enumeration.
As per the procedure, citizens have to enter data on the HLO app on their mobile phone pertaining to 33 aspects related to basic facilities in the household — like drinking water, toilet, drainage system, electronic gadgets like TV, DTH, internet connectivity, smart phone, two/four wheeler, type of fuel like LPG and kerosene.
The first 15 days are meant for self-enumeration by the citizens. Enumerators will visit households and collect or confirm information with already entered data of the households during self-enumeration on their self-enumeration ID (SEID), from May 1 to 30.
The enumerators enter data pertaining to buildings of institutions, factories and every structure in the given area.
There, however, was some technical glitch on the first day with citizens facing trouble to enter data on the app and to complete the self-enumeration. However, it has been communicated to the head office to sort the issue out and to ensure there’s no recurrence.
The first phase of enumeration to find out the number of households is to help plan things in a better way vis–a-vis population enumeration.
The second phase will last 21 days from February, 2027, and there again would be self-enumeration.
Moreover, caste census will also be taken up. This covers a variety of social development indicators like sex ratio, literacy rate, fertility, migration, profession, employment and other details.
Director of census, J Nivas, said, “I appeal to all the citizens in AP to take part in the census by giving factual information. As the census is being held after 15 years, the data will be of immense benefit to plan for a lot of activities. The data will also reflect how the state and its people developed in the last 15 years.”
