Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government has effected major changes in the administration of universities across the state by dissolving the governing bodies of 18 universities. The state Higher Education Department on Thursday issued official orders dissolving the Executive Councils. This sweeping administrative restructuring primarily targets the removal of all nominated members appointed under Clause-2 during the previous government’s tenure.
However, it clarified that ex-officio members serving by virtue of their posts under Clause-1 will continue as usual. During the tenure of the previous government, governing bodies were constituted for the universities for a three-year term in August and September 2023.
With this decision, all nominated members of governing bodies appointed earlier have been removed.
The executive councils of Acharya Nagarjuna University, SVU, Andhra University, Padmavati Mahila University, Rayalaseema University, Krishna University, Andhra Kesari University, Vikrama Simhapuri University, JNTU Gurajada, JNTU Anantapur, JNTU Kakinada, YSR Architecture University, Abdul Haq Urdu University, Dravidian University, BR Ambedkar University, Yogi Vemana University, Adikavi Nannaya University, and Sri Krishnadevaraya University have been dissolved. However, new councils have been appointed for Andhra University, Nagarjuna University, and Padmavati University. These executive councils take decisions on administrative matters in the universities.”We are working to strengthen leadership capabilities in higher education,” said Higher Education Council Chairman Madhusudhana Reddy.
As part of the reconstitution of governing bodies, the government has already appointed a new governing body for Andhra University. Sources said new members for the remaining universities will also be announced soon. The move is being seen as part of the government’s effort to bring in fresh administrative oversight in higher education institutions in the state.
