In a big relief, the High Court directed the Adi Kavi Nannayya University (AKNU) to certify the appointment of faculty appointed in various BEd colleges affiliated to it.
The Andhra Pradesh government has refused to authorize the appointments of several faculty members appointed in BEd colleges and discharging duties for many years, on the grounds that they had not cleared NET or APSET. The teachers challenged the decision filing a petition in the High Court.
Judge Mutukumalli Sri Vijaya, on hearing the arguments, said the sudden removal of teachers from service as they had not been NET/APSET qualified would hit their livelihood. The court asked the university to certify the candidature and appointments of faculty members already working in the colleges affiliated to it.
At the same time, the court also directed the teachers to clear NET or APSET within two years. The court issued the orders protecting the employment of the faculty and also giving time to the petitioners to clear the qualifying exams.
