Nellore: The Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC) has intensified its drive against road encroachments across the city, warning that illegal occupation of public roads and permanent commercial structures will not be tolerated.
Addressing the Public Grievance Redressal Forum on Monday, municipal commissioner Y.O. Nandan said the corporation had received several complaints regarding encroachments on major roads, including Grand Trunk Road, Mini Bypass Road and Podalakur Road.
Acting on complaints, the NMC recently removed encroachments opposite the Rajarajeswari Ammavari temple, where permanent structures had been erected on road margins for commercial activities. The reclaimed land will be developed with greenery and walking tracks.
Nandan said similar violations had been reported on Mini Bypass Road, where vendors had allegedly occupied public spaces. While assuring support to street vendors, he said only mobile vending would be permitted and permanent occupation of roads would invite strict action. Special drives will be launched on major roads to keep public spaces free of encroachments.
