Vijayawada: Reacting to the hike in prices of fuels, K. Hemanth, a private employee, said, “My wages are meagre. The rise in cost of petrol will make me spend more to reach my workplace from home every day on my bike. I may be able to bear the rise of petrol cost by around ₹3 per litre. But if the same trend of rising prices continues on a regular basis, it will affect me and my family badly.”

B. Karthik, gig worker, said, “We are already getting less commission due to high competition. As we move mostly on bikes for delivery of food, we depend on commission to meet transport expenses. As some married people are also gig workers, it will become tough for them to run their households.”

D. Karthik, an IT employee, said, “We don’t mind the slight hike in fuel prices given the good income we earn. However, as we go for long drives during weekends, any further rise in price of fuels will have an impact on us. We are planning to switch to electric vehicles, as it will help us both reduce our fuel cost and protect the environment.”

N. Ravi, a businessman, said, “We travel a lot as part of our business. Though we can afford a slight rise in fuel expenses, we will be unable to deal with repeated fuel price hikes. The government must find an alternative to avoid a rise in prices of fuels in the future.”
