Power sector employees of the state have asked Andhra Pradesh government and managements of AP power utilities to immediately implement G.O. 45, which raises the retirement age of employees in Schedule-IX and Schedule-X organisations from 60 to 62 years.

The workers have pointed out that the delay in this regard has left thousands of workers in uncertainty.

AP Power Employees Forum president G. Ramakrishnudu, general secretary S. Koteswara Rao, vice president S. Srinivasa Rao, and secretary M. Srinivasa Rao recalled that while the retirement age of state government employees had been increased to 62 years in 2022, the benefit had not been extended to employees of Schedule-IX and Schedule-X institutions.

However, after examining representations from the power employees’ unions, the present government accepted recommendations of the Group of Ministers and issued G.O. 45, extending the enhanced retirement age to all eligible employees.

Welcoming the decision, the leaders thanked Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the state cabinet, and senior officials for resolving the long-pending issue. They, however, expressed concern that implementation of the enhanced retirement age in power utilities is being delayed in the name of internal committee reviews, despite the government having already examined all related issues before issuing the order.

The leaders said thousands of power utility staff, particularly those nearing retirement, have been waiting for over four-and-a-half years, with some even putting retirement-related benefit procedures on hold due to uncertainty. They appealed to managements of all power utilities to implement the G.O. without further delay, saying it would provide relief to employees and strengthen their confidence in the government.
