Nellore:The Andhra Pradesh government has approved Rs 50.40 crore for the modernisation and improvement of the reservoir in Sarvepalli village of Venkatachalam mandal.
This paves the way for a major upgrade of one of the major irrigation assets in SPSR Nellore district.
The project would strengthen irrigation infrastructure in the Sarvepalli region and improve water availability for agriculture, benefiting thousands of farmers dependent on the reservoir.
The administrative sanction follows a proposal submitted by the chief engineer of the NTR Telugu Ganga Project in Tirupati, seeking funds to strengthen and modernise the reservoir infrastructure. The project is meant to improve the reservoir’s efficiency, enhance water management and ensure better irrigation support for farmers in the region.
The government has directed the chief engineer to complete all technical formalities before the work begins. These include verifying estimates, quantities and rates, obtaining approved engineering designs for modifications to the dam and protection works, and ensuring that sand costs and seigniorage charges are calculated as per the latest government norms.
Officials have also been instructed to confirm the necessity and suitability of every proposed component before granting technical sanction.
The order, issued with the concurrence of the finance department, authorises the NTR Telugu Ganga Project authorities to proceed with the next stage of approvals, bringing the long-awaited reservoir modernisation project a step closer to execution.
