Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Commercial Taxes department showcased on Saturday its end-to-end artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted GST investigation system to a delegation from the Chhattisgarh state tax department.
The Chhattisgarh delegation, led by special commissioner Tarannum Verma, appreciated AP’s technology-driven approach and expressed interest in adopting the same AI-assisted model.
The delegation of the neighbouring state is on a three-day visit to study Andhra Pradesh’s technology-enabled initiatives and exchange best practices in GST administration.
Chief Commissioner of State Tax Babu Ahmad explained to Chhattisgarh officials how their department is integrating AI and advanced data analytics into GST administration for targeted interventions, improving the speed and quality of analysis, handling large volumes of taxpayer data, and strengthening compliance and enforcement.
Babu Ahmad clarified that statutory decisions, however, continue to be the responsibility of competent human officers.
AP’s end-to-end AI-assisted solution covers the investigation lifecycle from risk profiling and identification of high-risk taxpayers to case selection and allocation, detection of mismatches and suspicious transaction patterns, investigation and analysis, and AI-assisted preparation of draft statutory notices, communications, and orders in accordance with the GST law and prescribed procedures.
AP’s GST officials explained to their Chhattisgarh counterparts how AI is being used as an integrated decision-support system, rather than merely an analytical tool. By bringing together taxpayer data, risk indicators, discrepancies, and statutory requirements, AI assists officers at different stages of an investigation, including the preparation of draft statutory documents, subject to verification and approval by the competent officer.
AP GST’s Legal wing briefed the Chhattisgarh delegation on legal AI, digital case management, and litigation tracking, including AI-assisted workflows for legal and statutory drafting. The briefing covered enforcement and anti-evasion measures, revenue trends and revenue augmentation strategies, and the functioning of the Central Registration Unit.
AP officials conducted live demonstrations of mobile applications for field visits and vehicle checks, followed by interactive discussions with the Chhattisgarh legal team.
The Chhattisgarh delegation appreciated the integration of risk-based case selection, investigation, statutory compliance, and AI-assisted drafting into a unified workflow. It expressed its wish to adopt the AI tax solutions developed by Andhra Pradesh “as is” and sought collaboration for training.
The delegation from the neighbouring state included joint commissioner Narendra Verma, deputy commissioners Hemant Sinha and Prakash Gupte, assistant commissioner Purwa Guptee, and system analyst Ridhima Sharma.
