VIJAYAWADA: Unveiling an ambitious vision to make yoga an integral part of daily life across Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday announced that permanent Yoga Mandirs would be established in Swarna Gram and Swarna Ward offices across the state.
The initiative, he said, is aimed at taking yoga to every household and ensuring comprehensive public health.
Addressing a massive gathering at International Yoga Day celebrations at the IGM Stadium here, the chief minister said his government was committed to building a “healthy, wealthy and happy Andhra Pradesh” through a combination of physical fitness, mental well-being and spiritual growth.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, youth, government employees, officials and others. Yoga guru Baba Ramdev led the sessions, while Naidu and IT minister Nara Lokesh prominently participated in performing the pranayama, anulom-vilom and various yoga postures.
The CM said yoga was not merely a form of exercise but a way of life that could significantly improve physical and mental health. Stressing the importance of preventive healthcare, he urged the people to dedicate time every day to yoga, meditation and healthy living practices.
Later, sharing his message on social media platform X, Naidu described yoga as India’s invaluable gift to humanity and said it offered benefits to people of all ages and backgrounds. “Yoga offers a simple and effective path to better health, well-being and inner balance,” he said, calling upon citizens to make yoga a part of their daily routine.
Naidu credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for securing global recognition for yoga and said India, as a Vishwaguru had the capacity to guide the world. He noted that the future belonged to the combination of technology and spirituality and encouraged young people to embrace both.
Outlining the government’s roadmap, the chief minister announced that district and mandal-level officials would monitor yoga programmes, while an expert committee would formulate standard yoga protocols. A dedicated Yogandhra portal would also be launched to coordinate yoga-related activities across the state.
The CM announced that yoga would be integrated into the Sanjeevani health initiative, which is scheduled to be rolled out statewide from August 15. The government, he said, would also promote chemical-free diets through natural farming and work towards increasing AP’s green cover to 50 per cent.
Recalling the success of Yogandhra-2025 in Visakhapatnam, where world records were created in the presence of the PM, Naidu announced that Andhra Pradesh would host International Yoga Day celebrations in Tirupati next year under the banner of Yogandhra-2027. The Chief Minister, who said he had practised yoga for nearly three decades, said this helped him cope with the pressures of public life. He urged citizens to devote at least an hour daily to yoga and meditation to maintain good health and reduce dependence on hospitals. Officials presented two World Book of Records certificates to the CM, recognising the participation of 1.07 crore people and 2.5 lakh trainers in yoga-related activities across AP. Union ministers, state ministers and several other public figures attended the programme.
