Energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar on Monday laid the foundation stone for a 132/33 kV substation at Elchuru in Addanki constituency, to be built by AP Transco at a cost of `35.78 crore. He said the facility would address low-voltage problems in Elchuru and surrounding areas and ensure quality power supply.
The minister also performed bhoomi puja for a proposed indoor stadium and shuttle courts in Addanki and launched cement concrete road works worth `30 crore in the town.
He said the NDA government would not increase electricity tariffs and alleged that the previous YSRC government had imposed an additional burden of `20,000 crore on consumers through frequent tariff hikes.
Referring to the impact of El Nino on power demand and agriculture, Ravi Kumar said the government was increasing power generation through APGenco and taking alternative measures to ensure uninterrupted supply. He urged people to use the PM Surya Ghar scheme to reduce pressure on the grid during peak hours.
He said the government was selling rice at `48 per kg to provide relief amid rising prices caused by water shortages and reduced agricultural activity.
The minister also said the government had resolved long-pending land issues involving properties on the prohibited list, including those in Daivalaravuru village, following Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s intervention.
